Acclaimed French designer Ronan Bouroullec, known for his masterful blend of craftsmanship and industrial technique, has unveiled two striking new creations for FLOS: Luce Sferica and Luce Cilindrica.

These suspension designs continue his exploration of material, form, and light through the quiet magic of blown glass, reflecting a distinctive ability to turn emotion into functional design.

Balancing Precision and Poetry

At the core of these new suspension lamps is an exercise in contrast. Bouroullec pairs the cold, exacting precision of an extruded aluminum base with the warm, organic imperfections of mouth-blown glass.

The primary structure is a slender horizontal aluminum profile housing two separate LED strips. This dual-emission setup allows the fixture to cast light both upwards towards the ceiling and downwards onto the surface below.

The magic happens where the glass meets the metal. The blown glass spheres (in the case of Luce Sferica) glide along the aluminum base, settling onto the structure with an almost weightless appearance. Bouroullec likens this delicate interaction to "raindrops clinging to a wire or a soap bubble blown by a child."

At one end of the aluminum profile sits a highly discreet, touch-sensitive dimmer, giving the user independent control over each light source. This level of tactile interaction bridges the gap between the poetic visual design and the rigorous technical engineering FLOS is known for.

Luce Cilindrica: A Slender Sibling

While Luce Sferica plays with the perfect, rounded geometry of the sphere, its sister design, Luce Cilindrica, replaces the orbs with slender, elongated borosilicate glass cylinders.

The same balance of industrial technique and artisanal poetry defines this model. The cylindrical glass diffusers stretch the light longitudinally, creating a sharper, more streamlined silhouette that feels incredibly modern while retaining the fragile beauty of the glasswork.

Both models are available in three different dimensional lengths, each paired with a corresponding number of spheres or cylinders to match the scale of the room.

Landscapes of Light

A single fixture is a statement, but multiple fixtures create an environment.

Perfect for luxury homes, hospitality settings, museum spaces, or grand architectural interiors, both Luce Sferica and Luce Cilindrica can be installed in multiple parallel rows to form magical, luminous landscapes.

With these new designs, Ronan Bouroullec successfully gives form to a kind of modern enchantment—one that is deeply faithful to his poetic sensibility and aesthetics, executed flawlessly through the technical prowess of FLOS.
