Born in Venice in 1935, Tobia Scarpa is a celebrated architect and designer whose work is defined by a vision that transcends convention. Alongside his partner Afra Bianchin, he played a fundamental role in the early FLOS story. His creations are distinguished by original, enduring forms and a profound understanding of how materials interact with light.

Now, FLOS and Scarpa have revisited one of his most refined creations from 1963: the Seki-Han.

A Masterpiece Reimagined

The Seki-Han reflects Scarpa’s deep sensitivity to materials. The fixture is formed by two sculptural wooden blades that elegantly enclose a tubular light source. Its intricate construction draws heavy inspiration from naval architecture and Scarpa’s extensive knowledge of traditional woodworking.

Two Light Projection Modes for Complete Control

Reimagined by FLOS in close collaboration with Scarpa, the new edition is subtly transformed. It meets contemporary demands for high-performance LED lighting and versatility while rigorously preserving the design’s original essence.

The wooden blades are now mobile. They can rotate smoothly around the central body, allowing the user to physically modulate both the intensity and direction of the light.

Even when fully "closed," a sliver of light remains visible at all times, escaping through the seams to create a highly evocative, lantern-like effect. It brings the tactile, natural feel of traditional Japanese lighting into a contemporary, architectural form.

Now Available in a New Suspension Version

In addition to the classic floor model, the new Seki-Han stays true to the spirit of the original while adding a light, linear suspension version.

Translating the floor lamp concept into the air, the suspension version hangs horizontally to create a warm, architectural line above dining or meeting tables. Each piece is unique, embodying a continuous dialogue between material and process, past and present, technique and design.
